Have a blessed day.

“Have a blessed day.” That is what she said to me. A blessed day. On a business phone. I called an office in the course of my day to day employment and got a machine. I listen to her recording. Leave a message, blah blah blah, and have a blessed day. She means no harm. Wishing me good will. Right?
Hell, NO!
First this chick is trying to fling her voodoo on me. Please think about those who were blessed. Martyrs, saints, Job! They had a rough deal. Living in poverty and sometimes suffering a horrific fate. Job had his whole family killed, crops wiped out and cattle killed. When he still loved God, he got replacement children. REPLACEMENT CHILDREN! Really! So, no, I am not that keen on “Have a blessed day.”
It is like saying “There is a God. He is my God. I am in His favor enough to bestow His gifts upon you.” How arrogant. What if I end my messages with “There is no God and it is good”? How much of an uproar would that cause my clients and associates. Could hurt the business and my employer would be crazy to allow me to do this. So now everybody who calls this chick will be the victim of her proselytizing and those offended will slink off into the dark alone and sad. Screw you lady!
There is no God and it is good!

  2. Why is it so wrong to tell you to have a GREAT FREAKING DAY!!! THEY ARE WISHING YOU A POSITIVE DAY!!! not a NEGATIVE one like you are ADVERTISING!!! Honeslty- You need to double Check your mood and see that this person Wished you Positive things- Not negative- You are Selfish, Arrogant, and Ignorant!!! Good bye- and have a Blessed life- You Obviouslly need it- you are probably suffering from Depression- its ok- Things will get better when you believe that Positive things Can happen to you...

    1. This lady totally missed the point. I too am offended
By being told to have a. Blessed day. Keep your religious beliefs to yourself. Who are you to offer blessings? Have a nice day is far more appropriate and welcome.

  5. Golly.... Well, the passive or active proselytization of your religion is what I find objectionable. The tacit assumption that I, or anyone, share your faith without the inkling of thought that I might be different, that I might have my own mind and my own opinions and my own beliefs, is what I object to. Saying "Have a Blessed Day" is like saying "Mighty white of you." You think it is just a positive comment but I take offense. And you react with anger.

Pushing your beliefs aggressively is offensive but easily identifiable. Pushing your beliefs subtly and gently but consistently and repetitively is more effective. A tidal wave can destroy a city but a gentle stream creates the grand canyon.

The little everyday subtle attacks allow you to Proselytize while keeping a clean conscience. Good for you. Silently damn me ignorantly. Assume I will not be offended by your culture of religious assumption and therefore ambivalent intolerance.

I grew up as a white guy in an all black neighborhood. People were generally nice about it. But I could feel that I was always that much different. I was the weirdo, the outsider. No matter how close I was with people there it was, the big neon sign that I was different and somehow wrong (contextually). I could never swallow my pride and "pass" though. Here is the same thing but I now have the option to "pass" as theist, as normal. I have the choice to pretend to be what I am not just to get along. Well, screw that! I am who and what I am. YOU need to accept me and that there are people who are not like you. Well, I do exist and am separate and different from you. Your solipsist fantasy ends today. There is a way to be a person. Get over your self.

  6. If I tell you to have a blessed day, you may tell me that there is no god. I did my bit to witness and so did you.

  10. You are completely wrong!!!! First off they are not saying have a God blessed day or have an Allah day or have a Jehovah's day or kwanza day but have a blessed day!! I do know there is a God and he is coming soon whether you want to believe it or not but saying have a blessed day has nothing to do with religion in this context!!! You need to pull the stick out your butt and stop getting offended by every little thing!!! You are what the world calls a complainer!!! So seriously what is wrong wouldn't you say if you won the lottery I have been blessed by this world of something amazing happenening and you should read the bible before just throwing it out there also you should rejoice death and mourn a birth because when your born your born into a world full of hate and sin even though you don't believe you are full of hate not love!! And why would anyone volunteer to come to this corrupted world!!! You should read the bible front to back its actually a really good book full of war sex and really good things as well!! It shows this entire time we have been having wars it also says that the devil is the ruler of this world and that's why it's so corrupt and for you not to believe is okay because God hardened everyone's hearts!!

  11. This is the fourth site I have visited searching for an apt response to "have a blessed day." I live in South Carolina so it's an ongoing thing. I don't want to be rude to the person, I just want to show I'm not a member of the club they seem to be including me in. I have always said "thanks, you too." But I'm starting to be a little ashamed and annoyed--their blessing forces me to be a hypocrite. The best response I have found so far in my search is just "Have a good day." I was hoping for something more clever, but without too much sting in it. Any ideas out there?
